In 2011, grant funds from the Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) were used to purchase Big Bellysolar powered trash compactors, located at facilities such as City Hall and other City parks. Each compactor is designed to use solar powered energy to compact trash for a cleaner more efficient collection process. Recycle units are attached to each compactor to separate plastic bottles and aluminum cans.
