The eligibility and procedures for Team membership is currently as follows:
- Police Officer for at least two years.
- Conroe Police Officer for at least one year.
- Display good attitude and ability to work well within a team.
- Good evaluations (no below average ratings).
- Officer makes written request to Team Commander to join SWAT team.
- Team Commander and Team Leaders review request and evaluations.
- During regular Team meeting applicant stands before entire Team to discuss application and answer questions from Team.
- The application is then presented for a vote. Must pass by unanimous vote.
- Successfully complete obstacle course in the required time.
- Successfully pass the Departmental firearm qualification course with a minimum score of 90%.
- At this point, Officer is considered a probationary SWAT Team member.
- Must successfully complete a Basic SWAT course of instruction.
- The Officer is then initiated as a full SWAT Team member and is allowed to wear the SWAT emblem.
On-going requirements:
- Must attend all call-outs.
- Mandatory training - 8 hours every three weeks.
- Maintain firearm proficiency. Quarterly Departmental qualifications - 90%. Assigned SWAT weapons qualifications - 90%.
- Maintain physical fitness. Bi-annual physical fitness qualifications.
Training: Mandatory training - 8 hours every three weeks
- Designed to train on team activities.
- Scheduled up to four months in advance.
- All members are required to attend.
A member failing to attend three consecutive or 50% of the mandatory training sessions in a six-month period may be suspended or dismissed from the Team. A member that fails to respond to a call-out without acceptable justification or that continually fails to respond regardless of justifications may be dismissed from the Team.
Optional training - 2 hours per day up to 10 hours per week
- Voluntary training.
- May be used for physical training, firearms training or team activities.
