Field Training Program

The Patrol Division takes a major role in the initial training of all new Officers.  The Field Training Program is extensive and begins with instruction at the Firearms Training Facility.  Once a new officer completes the initial training he/she is assigned to a Field Training Officer within Patrol.  There are Field Training Officers assigned throughout the Patrol Division and new Officers receive training from several.  The Field Training Program is thirteen weeks in length.  The program is rigorous and expectations of performance and professionalism are very high.  It is not uncommon for a Probationary Police Officer, that lacks prior Police experience, to be unsuccessful in his/her first attempt through the Field Training Program.
