The Public Works Administration and Maintenance Department has the massive responsibility of maintaining the city's physical assets: streets, sidewalks, water system, sewer system, drainage facilities and municipally owned building. The department also installs new water lines and sewer lines that are designed by the Capital Projects Department. The public works staff oversees the city's water production and monitors the water quality. It also operates a treatment plant that converts raw sewage into a clean effluent before discharging it into the San Jacinto River. The Public Works Department is made up of several smaller departments for a total of one hundred ten employees.

The City of Conroe Public Works Department provides 24-hour response to requests for Public Works related emergency services. To report an emergency such as traffic hazards, water leak or sewer stoppages during office hours (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday) call the Public Works Department at (936) 522-3885. Don't assume your neighbor will make the call for emergencies. The Public Works Department would rather receive multiple reports about a suspected problem than no calls at all.
