The Arts and Communications department provides services for life-long learning, culture and entertainment for the citizens of the City of Conroe. As a city liaison with the non-profit arts groups, this department is responsible for implementing grants for the arts groups and encouraging exposure of the arts to the citizens of Conroe through special art exhibits, instrumental music and the performing arts. Janna Patrick, Arts & Communications Coordinator handles this area relative to the media relations and works with the Emergency Operations Center during times of hurricanes or disasters implementing the communication to the citizens of Conroe through the media. Arts & Communications is very instrumental in the development and marketing of downtown Conroe. Janna has a BS in Education and a Minor in Music from the University of North Texas with Post Baccalaurate work in Communications, Radio and TV at the University of Houston and Sam Houston State University. With 13 years of teaching in music in the public schools Janna has directed shows and worked with students in Odyssey of the Mind Competitions. Her experience ranges from performing professionally in Houston, with "Theatre Under The Stars", "Main Street Theatre", "The Company On Stage", the "Gilbert & Sullivan Society", "The Houston Symphony Chorus", the "Houston Chamber Singers," the "Tuesday Morning Club"., and "Roquefellers." She has approximately 13 years experience in marketing and communications relative to advertising agencies in Houston and experience from working as an intern in TV from Universal Studios at Nickelodeon Studios in Production Management on shows such as "What Would you Do?" game show & "Legends of the Hidden Temple" with Stone Stanley Productions, ABC TV in Promotions in Houston, along with working at the Public Acsess TV of Houston and Region IV, instructional TV of Houston, Texas. Hired in 2004, Janna works everyday with the city departments in all communications and arts endeavors, the CIty Administrator, the Mayor and City Council, and with citizens on many committees which is also a big part of the Arts & Communications Coordinator's position serving the citizens by providing public information and being an advocate and liaison for the arts. Conroe Commission On Arts & Culture The Arts Commission consists of ten commissioners that are appointed by the Mayor of Conroe. They each represent an arts organization that is a non-profit. A neutral subcommittee will review grant applications for grant money through the City of Conroe. These grants are based on community enrichment and funds generated by the City of Conroe. Janna Patrick, the Arts & Communications Coord., works in concert with the Arts Commission during this process, the neutral sub-committee and other fundraising activities as a liason from the City of Conroe.The Lake Conroe Convention & Visitors Bureau has a Tourist Council that reviews grants for the arts as well. These grants are based on tourism and generating tourism to the hotels and restaurants in Conroe. These grant funds are generated from Hotel/Motel Funds.
