PRESS RELEASE Hurricane AwarenessWeekimmediate release:May 19, 2009CONROE, TX. - Hurricanes are nature's most powerful storms that can lead to flooding hundreds of miles inland. Hurricane storm systems can sweep far northward into neighboring states causing further floods days after they make landfall with some of the heaviest rainfall occurring 200 miles away from the center of the storm. For those living in low-lying areas, please plan ahead, evacuating is the smartest move. The best advice for drivers is never to drive through water running across roadways. Drivers that see water across roads or highways, need to back up and choose alternate routes. Water on a roadway can be much deeper than it appears and water levels can rise very quickly. Flooding, including flash flooding, is the number one cause of weather related deaths in Texas. Hurricane season officially begins June 1 and continues through November 30. August, September, and October are the most dangerous months for hurricanes in Texas.
