Is my property in or out of city limits?

The current City Limits Map may be found on our GIS webpage to help you locate your parcel.  If this map cannot answer your question, then you may request an Address Location Map.  You must provide a valid street address of the property in question along with your contact information and an e-mail address to receive the map.

Who do I deal with if my property falls within the City of Conroe Joint Planning Area and the ETJ?

Agency responsibility within the City Limits, Joint Planning Area and ETJ are explained on our Long Range Planning webpage.  If this cannot answer your question, please contact the City of Conroe Engineering Office at 936-522-3100 to verify if your project must be approved and reviewed by the City of Conroe or Montgomery County.

Where can I get a copy of the codes?

The City of Conroe Municipal Codes and Ordinances, Subdivision Ordinance (Chapter 94), as well as the Building Codes (Chapter 14) are available on-line and may be found by clicking Ordinances/Codes from our webpage.  The City of Conroe Design Manual, Streets & Drainage Manual, and Water & Sewer Specifications are only available through our permitting department.  Please contact the Permits Division of Community Development Department at 936-522-3110 to obtain information on the purchase of these manuals.

How can I find out about water and sewer availability?

If you property is inside of the City Limits of Conroe, please contact the City of Conroe Engineering Department at 936-522-3100 to inquire about water and sewer availability in your area.  These maps are not available on-line, but can be obtained from the Engineering Department at the City of Conroe at 300 West Davis.

When water and sewer mains are extended due to an annexation, may I keep my existing septic system and water well, or am I required to connect to the new city mains?

Utility connection requirements are handled on a case by case basis and information may be found in the Annexation Services Agreement.  This information may be found in the City of Conroe City Council Minutes, or through the City Secretary at 936-522-3000.

Once annexed, when do I start paying taxes to the city?

Upon approval of the annexation ordinance by the City Council, the City Secretary notifies the Texas State Comptroller's Office of the areas that have been annexed.  The Comptroller's Office then researches the annexed properties, determines the taxes to be levied, and notifies the property owners.  The State Comptroller's Office may be contacted at 800-252-5555 or by clicking on the following link: Window on State Government, Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts.

What department handles drainage issues?

If you live within the City Limits of Conroe, and your drainage problems, complaints, or questions are related to a maintenance issue, such as an overflowing ditch, overflowing storm sewer, or flooding of a public street, please contact the Street and Drainage Superintendent in the department of Public Works. If your drainage problems, complaints, or questions are related to an active residential or commercial construction site, such as sediment run-off, or storm basin overflowing, then you would contact the office of the City Engineer in the department of Community Development.

How may I find out if my property is in, or out of, the 100 -year floodplain?

You may request a FEMA Letter and Map be prepared for your property.  Please access the Request for FEMA Information link located our Floodplain Management webpage.  This request may be submitted via mail, e-mail, or fax. All information must be filled out completely and accurately.  Please allow up to 5 business days to process the request.  There is a $5 fee to obtain the letter and map.

Who do I contact when railroad lights or crossing gates are malfunctioning?

Contact the Texas Department of Public Safety at 800-772-7677 and provide the location information.  They will then contact the appropriate railway company to address the issue.

How do I request a new streetlight installation?

Please submit a written request to the Director of Community Development providing information regarding the location and reason for the street light installation request.  For more information refer to our Traffic Engineering webpage which has a link to the submittal form. This information can be provided via mail, e-mail, or fax.

How do I report a traffic safety issue?

I want to have a party in my neighborhood.  Do I need an amplification permit?

If a live band or D.J. will be performing or if loud music (i.e. a sound system) will be played, an amplification permit is required.  The permit may be obtained in person at the Permits Division at the City of Conroe at 300 West Davis, or on-line by clicking on the following link.  The permit must be applied for at least 10 working days prior to the event.  This permit is valid until 10:00 P.M. for the day of the event and must be posted in plain view on the site.

What are the procedures and processes for plat and plan submittals?

There are several different types of platting, each having unique procedures and documents.  The same holds true for Commercial Site Plans and Subdivision (or Engineering) Plan submittals.  You can find explanations and associated documents for all your platting and plan submittal needs on our Engineering webpage.

If I divide one lot, is that a subdivision and am I required to follow Chapter 94, the Subdivision Ordinance? 

Any subdivision of property is governed by Chapter 94, the Subdivision Ordinance.  The City of Conroe Municipal Codes and Ordinances, Subdivision Ordinance (Chapter 94), as well as the Building Codes (Chapter 14) are available on-line and may be found by clicking Ordinances/Codes from our webpage.  You can find explanations and associated documents for all your platting and plan submittal needs on our Engineering webpage.

How do I find out about Conroe's zoning requirements?

Although the City of Conroe has no zoning ordinance, property development must comply with all City codes and ordinances. If you need further documentation to this fact, you may contact the Permits office at (936) 522-3110, and request a "Letter of No Zoning."

How may I find out the status of my submitted plats or plans?

The status of Residential/Commercial construction plans that have been applied for can be checked by phone.  You will need the address of the project or the project name.

How may I find out the status of permit and/or inspection request?

After a permit is issued the General Contractor or Subcontractor can log on to www.buildingdepartment.com and track all permits and inspections that are issued under the company name.
