General Information The Public Works Department has the massive responsibility of maintaining the city's physical assets: streets, sidewalks, water system, sewer system, drainage facilities and municipally owned buildings. The department also installs new water lines and sewer lines that are designed by the Capital Projects Department. The public works staff oversees the city's water production and monitors the water quality. It also operates a treatment plant that converts raw sewage into a clean effluent before discharging it into the San Jacinto River. The Public Works Department is made up of several smaller departments for a total of one hundred ten employees. Public Works Administration Dean Towery has served as the director of the department since 1987. Prior to that, he was the Water and Sewer Superintendent for the city for 6 years. According to Department Head and Director Dean Towery, "The employees of the Public Works Department are the true unsung heroes of the City of Conroe, garnering little glory while performing some of the most visible and important functions in City government - protecting the longevity of all city facilities, including streets, drainage, wastewater, facilities, water production and distribution, as well as City-owned vehicles, equipment and buildings." The City of Conroe Public Works Department provides 24-hour response to requests for Public Works related emergency services. To report an emergency such as traffic hazards, water leak or sewer stoppages during normal working hours (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday) call the Public Works Department at (936) 522-3885. Don't assume your neighbor will make the call for emergencies. The Public Works Department would rather receive multiple reports about a suspected problem than no calls at all. Telephone: (936) 522-3885 / Fax No.: (936) 522-3898 / Send an email. The Public Works Service Center is located at 401 Sgt. Ed Holcomb Blvd. South, off of FM 2854 & Sgt. Ed Holcomb Blvd. Approximately 2 miles from I-45 or S. Loop 336 on Sgt. Ed Holcomb Blvd. To report emergencies after normal working hours or on weekends, call (936) 522-3828 to reach the answering service, which will contact the appropriate Public Works personnel. When reporting an emergency, please provide your name, address, phone number and a brief explanation of the emergency. |
