The Oscar Johnson, Jr. Community Center is a hub of activity for the local community situated on nearly two and one-half acres south of downtown Conroe. A modern six thousand square foot building with meeting facilities, classrooms, library, computer room, kitchen, and offices supports the Center's programming efforts to address the needs in the community. Outdoor features include a lighted basketball court, playground area, picnic tales, and swimming pool. Conroe residents can participate in the internationally recognized children's after school programming or summer day camps, tutoring and mentoring, teen programs, Spanish/English classes and a variety of other programs and special events. Named for Oscar Johnson, Jr. the first black Conroe City Council member, the Community Center is the vision of Conroe's concerned citizens and has been operating for over ten years.
