1. What positions are available?
The City of Conroe accepts applications/resumes for only those positions listed in the weekly job announcements. The announcements are updated every Monday, except those that fall on a holiday. All available positions are advertised.
2. How do I apply?
The City of Conroe Human Resources Department accepts applications/ resumes for positions that are listed in the Job Announcements and is published with new listings every Monday.
- Complete a City of Conroe application or submit a resume.
- You may apply using the online Job Application. Using this feature will allow you to store your application online and apply for several jobs using a single application.
- You may also apply using a paper application (click here to downloadIf you submit a paper application, a separate application/resume is required for each position for which you are applying. We do not keep applications/resumes "on file."
- We do not accept unsolicited applications/resumes. We cannot process incomplete, unsigned applications.
- Application must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. Central Standard Time on the date the position closes. Applications/resumes submitted after 5:00 p.m. Central Standard Time on the closing date will not be processed.

3. How do I know if I qualify for a position?
The qualifications for each position are listed in "Minimum Qualifications" section of the advertisement.
Some positions allow for a substitution of additional work experience instead of the educational requirement or vice versa. If a position allows for a substitution it will be stated in the advertisement. If it is not stated in the advertisement, the position does not allow for a substitution. You must meet all of the qualifications of the position for which you are applying.
In order to determine if you meet the minimum qualifications for a position, use the following guidelines:

Full-time work experience vs. part-time work experience:
Calculations for work experience are based on full-time experience. Full-time experience equals 30 hours or more of work per week. Part-time experience equals less than 30 hours of work per week. Therefore, part-time work experience is counted as half of the total length of experience (i.e. 2 years part-time work experience = 1 year full-time work experience).

4. Does the City of Conroe maintain an application/resume bank?
No, the City of Conroe does not maintain an application/resume bank. However applications are kept on file for one year, provided they are returned by the department.

5. What are "temporary" positions?
The City of Conroe periodically advertises "temporary" positions for departments needing either temporary or regular positions. Applications are kept on file at the hiring department for sixty days. The hiring departments contact applicants for the positions as needed.

6. Are there any typing tests?
The City does not typically require a typing test but one may be requested in order to verify competency. If a position requires a typing test, it will be stated in the "Minimum Qualifications" section of the advertisement.

7. Do I have to have a Commercial Driver's License when I apply for the job?
Some positions with the City of Conroe require a Commercial Driver's License. In order to be considered for the positions, applicants must comply with the Department of Transportation Federal Regulations and the City of Conroe Driving Policy for commercial drivers. Some positions require that you submit a copy of your driving record when applying. If this is required, it will be specifically stated in the vacancy announcement. Top candidates for these positions will be required to take a pre-employment drug test.

8. What does a background check entail?
If a position requires a background check it will be noted on the job vacancy announcement. For specific information regarding the background check, applicants should contact the hiring department.

9. What happens to my application after it is submitted?

Your completed application/resume is submitted to the City of Conroe and entered into a tracking system and sorted by hiring department.

The hiring supervisor reviews all applications/resumes, then selects qualified applicants for interviews. The application review process takes at least 2 to 3 weeks after a position has closed. Applications for positions listed as "until filled are reviewed by the hiring department at their discretion.

If you have been selected for an interview, the department will call you to schedule an interview. After interviews are conducted, a top candidate is identified.
The HR department conducts credential and required license validations, references, and background checks. The hiring department contacts the top candidate to make a job offer.

10. Can I inquire about the status of my application?
Yes, you may call the Human Resources office at 936-522-3150, and we can tell you what day your application was sent to the requested department and whether or not the position has been filled.

11. What is my effective date of insurance coverage should I become employed with the City of Conroe?
1st of the month following your 90-day hire date.
