Community Oriented Response Team

In 2004 the Police Department started the CORT Unit. The Unit participates with, and is dedicated to, the education of citizens in traffic safety and enforcement, as well as criminal investigations of community-initiated complaints. Since CORT Officers are not call responsive these complaints can be addressed in a manner that was not possible before the formation of the Unit.

The Unit was formed to respond to an increasing number of traffic related problems throughout the growing city including congestion, reckless behavior, and a sharp rise in the number of fatality vehicle crashes. By working areas that are indicated by citizen complaints and available accident statistics, the Police Department can more effectively address traffic safety and ultimately save lives.

The CORT Unit is currently comprised of four Officers and the Sergeant. Duty hours vary based on the assignment. Most Officers in the Unit are certified and highly trained in the areas of accident reconstruction and impaired driver recognition.  All are highly trained in traffic enforcement.  The Unit works closely with other City of Conroe departments including, Community Development, Code Enforcement, Public works, and the Texas Department of Transportation in an effort to reduce traffic problems.

In August of 2009, this unit brought motorcycle officers back to the City of Conroe.  We haven't seen the "CHiPs" style motorcycle officers here since the 80's.  These officers' primary responsibility will be to address the traffic enforcement issues of the City.  Please keep an eye out for them.

The CORT Unit also responds to all traffic related fatalities and serves as the investigating unit. The most up-to-date technology is employed by the Unit, including Total Station crash reconstruction technology. The Unit completes all reports, autopsy examinations, court proceedings, and investigations of unnatural deaths due to a motor vehicle crash.

Traffic related complaints may be routed through the CORT Unit or the Traffic Advisory Committee of the Community Development department.

If a citizen has a specific complaint they feel can be addressed by the CORT Unit they can call the Police Department at 936-522-3200 or Sgt. Jon Buckholtz directly at 936-522-3320 or you may email him at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
