Employee of the Year is Julie Smith

Julie SmithAdministrative Coordinator Julie Smith has been named the 2019 City of Conroe Employee of the Year. The City of Conroe’s Employee of the Year program is designed to recognize the work and actions of the City’s employees that have displayed exceptional service on a consistent basis, for an extended period.

Julie Smith has really turned around the face of Human Resources with a contagious and uplifting attitude, going the extra mile every day to make everyone feel welcome. Julie is always willing to take on any task, no matter how new.

“She constantly has a pleasant attitude when performing any tasks and when asked for advice or information, Julie performs with critical accuracy, working hard to find the correct information before passing it on to employees. She shows great initiative, is adept at problem solving, and does an excellent job of keeping all department members ‘in the loop’.” City Administrator, Paul Virgadamo said about Julie Smith at the awards lunch.

Mr. Virgadamo went on to say, “Truly a great example of exceeding customer, employee and public expectations, Julie highly deserves the title of Employee of the Year.”

Nicole Harper, Helpdesk Supervisor, for the IT department and Scott Perry, Center Supervisor for the Parks and Recreation department were also recognized for their exemplary service.

Nicole Harper who was the 2nd runner up for Employee of the Year, is an excellent asset to the IT department, as well as, the City as a whole. She always goes above and beyond to assist any city employee with IT needs. She displays professionalism and a positive attitude no matter what task she has been faced with. She will work until the task is complete while keeping the employee’s time requirements in mind.

Harper has taken on many projects with success and dedication which includes migration of the IT ticketing system from TrackIT to Managed Engine, reengineering SCCM software as an IT tool, NetMotion connectivity for PD and Community Development laptops, just to name a few.

Harper worked endless hours during Hurricane Harvey, as well as, other times when employees need assistance. She is eager to research and tackle new technologies and continually trains to expand her knowledge. She is responsible for a staff of two who she constantly mentors and promotes training for their professional and personal growth.

3rd runner up, Scott Perry, embodies the City’s mission statement to protect and serve the citizens of Conroe. His contributions and achievements include, but are not limited to, starting a before school program to help working parents have a safe place to go prior to school starting with transportation for students to their respective schools; maintaining an enrollment of 500 in the After School Recreation Program; worked with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department for grant funding of an outdoor adventure program for teens; and completing phase two of the Community Center feasibility study including conceptual design and program services.

Scott is currently First Vice President of the Conroe Noon Lions Club where he started “Volunteer Saturdays” to engage others in a volunteer project that benefits a person or place in need, volunteers his weekends off at the Texas Lions Camp and played a major role in the Hurricane Harvey relief efforts in the county and beyond.

Scott restored ESL classes at the Center; serves on the board of the Community Assistance Center; oversees operations, recruitment, training, assignment, evaluation, and retention at the Community Center; exceed all expectations with finding support and funding for Kidz Fest which now has an estimated attendance of over 15,000! He has exceeded all expectations at the Oscar Johnson Jr Community Center.
